That story hits me harder than I expected. So we won’t call him a hero because he doesn’t think of himself that way, but I can say that I wish I could bottle his hope and his strength. I can assure you that when you know yourself to just be holding on, you don’t feel very hero like because you just are doing what you’re doing. Some people are born teachers and to be a teacher has to require a hopeful attitude because when you start teaching a group that is to really hope. Thank you for sharing his story. He probably doesn’t share it easily. I ache for all of the people of Gaza who have lost more than we can imagine.
If he and people like him aren't heros then who the hell is? Palestinians have always been known to be the best teachers and educators in the region. To them its a mission and a responsibility and not just a job. A responsibility to make sure that every Palestinian generation is highly educated because that is the only insurance policy they have aside from the fact that historically Palestinians have always had high levels of literacy before the flea infested uneducated European squatters showed up. I would be what helps him to keep going is that responsibility he feels towards his students.
