I've written about this also. In 3+ years at HC-2 we lost 6 in two crashes. I know of at least 6 dead while in fixed-wing Navy Flight training. A peacetime cruise to the Med in 67, the ship lost 5 killed in accidents. The Intrepid in WestPac in 68, at least 4 on ship and 3 pilots.

One of the best pilots I ever flew with transitioned from H-2s to H-46 and was killed on a test flight in early 70s.
