This is very good, gives me new approaches to working with people compassionately instead of through fighting.

Cognitive Dissonance: A mental conflict that occurs when beliefs are contradicted by new information. This conflict activates parts of the brain involved in personal identity and emotional response to threats. The brain's alarms go off when a person feels threatened on a deeply personal or emotional level, causing them to shut down and disregard any rational evidence that contradicts what they personally regarded as "truth".

I have given up on my dad. Thank God he didn't make himself a very big part of my life, or else I would have thought like him, maybe.

"Remember the Sabbath, to keep it holy."

That's from the 10 Commandments, in the Torah.

But what does that mean? 2,000 years ago Jews in Palestine had two competing calendars, one of 365 days per year, one of 364 days per year. In the 365 day year holidays would move relative to the 7 day week. In the 364 day year holidays didn't move. The 365 day year was Roman. Jesus followed the other one. Today we follow the Roman calendar, including today's Jews. The holidays move. And sometimes they land on a Sabbath.

After the Romans destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem and then put down a second rebellion, Judaism became a matter of following the Torah, of Phariseeism. Christians know what Jesus thought of the Pharisees. But the reason Jesus thought that was the Pharisees were pro-Roman. Christians know two famous Pharisees: Josephus (called Flavius because he was adopted by the Roman Emperor), and Paul (who was Roman by birth). Judah was taken over by Roman General Pompey after Queen Salome Alexandra ended her husband's persecution of the Pharisees.

In the century following the Crucifixion, a lot of people wrote a lot of different things about Jesus. And writing in those days was to make a point, not to record history. The non-Jewish Church was able to pick and choose the documents that became the Christian Scriptures. In some cases the Church composed (Luke) or heavily revised (Acts) documents. The Canon was completed by 400 CE. The Book of Enoch, mentioned by Jude, present in the Dead Sea Scrolls, got dropped (fortunately the Ethiopian Church kept it, along with the Ascents of Isaiah).

So, both Christianity and Judaism survived as Roman religions. Eventually Christianity became the state religion of the Roman Empire, and started persecuting the Jews. But nobody was keeping the Sabbath holy.

So, what is Zionism?

Don’t understand - US Gaza genocide doesn’t have good and bad sides and Christian Zionism is intimately involved in this horror and eternal shame for United States
