Serbs Just Forced Their President to Resign Because He Tried to Push Through the Jared Kushner Trump Hotel Project in Belgrade
A protected landmark, forged documents, and a government that collapsed under public pressure
For months, Aleksandar Vučić’s government kept trying to force through a luxury development deal tied to Jared Kushner. The plan was to turn the bombed‑out Generalstab building — a national symbol and a reminder of the 1999 NATO strikes — into a Trump‑branded hotel and high‑end complex. To make that possible, officials moved to strip the building of its cultural heritage status, even though architects, veterans, and preservation groups had been saying for years that the site should never be handed over to private developers.
People saw it as the government trying to erase a piece of national history for a foreign real‑estate project. Protests grew because of the way the government tried to ram the deal through. No transparency. No public input. Just a rushed approval for a politically connected investor.
That’s when the scandal broke.
In December 2025, prosecutors charged the Culture Minister and several officials with forging documents to clear the path for Kushner’s company. Investigators said paperwork had been altered to make it look like the building no longer qualified for heritage protection. Within hours of the charges becoming public, Kushner’s firm backed out of the deal entirely.
Vučić was furious. He called the investigation a “witch hunt,” accused opponents of sabotaging a major investment, and tried to frame the whole thing as an attack on Serbia’s economic future. But the damage was already done. The public wasn’t buying the excuses, and the scandal made it impossible for him to keep control.
Protests intensified. Government allies backed away. The pressure kept building until Vučić announced his resignation. At that point, it wasn’t about the hotel anymore — it was about a corrupted president.

I Hope This Happens Here This Disgusting piece of human waste needs to go to a federal nursing home prison
That's such a brilliant lesson for the whole world. If we stick together and just say "NO" then positive change can happen, these megalomaniac (MAGA-low-maniac?) grifters will back down. When Trump tries to exert pressure on any nation, when he tries to expert pressure on his own people: stick together and just say no. The only problem is with those he surrounds himself with and the cowardly, self-serving GOP who do nothing but suck up to him. He thinks, and they think, they demonstrate strength, but the rest of us can see it's weakness.
