Karim Khan didn’t describe “pressure.” He described threats — the kind of threats you expect from a mafia state, not a government claiming to be a democracy. According to Khan, Israeli officials threatened his wife and children because he dared to pursue arrest warrants for Israeli leaders accused of genocide. And when Israel wanted extra muscle, twelve U.S. senators jumped in and threatened his family too. That’s not diplomacy. That’s intimidation, straight up.
Khan was also smeared with bogus misconduct allegations. A 5,000‑page UN oversight report cleared him completely. Three ICC judges reviewed it and confirmed there was zero evidence he did anything wrong. But the ICC Bureau — stacked with governments that bend over backwards for Israel — refused to close the case. They kept it open because that’s how political pressure works: you don’t need evidence, you just need power.
And Israel has been playing this game for decades. Every time someone tries to investigate its actions, Israel reacts the same way: attack the investigator, threaten the institution, scream bias, and drag its allies into the fight. It’s a pattern so obvious you’d have to be blind not to see it.
Israel has threatened UN officials.
Israel has smeared human rights groups.
Israel has blocked investigators from entering Gaza.
Israel has leaned on Western governments to sabotage inquiries.
Israel has sanctioned ICC judges.
Israel has tried to dismantle the ICC’s authority entirely.
Now, according to Khan, Israel has crossed into threatening families — because it thinks it can get away with anything as long as Washington covers for it.
This isn’t about “security.” It’s not about “bias.” It’s about a state that refuses to be held accountable for what it does to Palestinians. And instead of facing the evidence, Israel tries to crush the people gathering it.
If the world lets this slide, then international justice is a joke. Because what’s the point of a court if a powerful state can threaten a prosecutor’s children and walk away untouched?
Khan said he hadn’t understood how much influence governments aligned with Israel actually have. Now he does. And now the rest of us see exactly what Israel is willing to do to stop the truth from getting out.
