I Like Zohran Mamdani. I Really, Really Do. But…

A breakdown of the moves he’s making that feel like a straight-up betrayal of the people who put him there.

I really, really like Zohran Mamdani, as a person, as a mayor. If Palestine wasn’t a question, if Palestine wasn’t a cause, if Palestine wasn't my litmus test, he would be perfect. But since he ran on the Palestine cause, what he’s doing right now is upsetting a lot of people, including myself.

And in saying that — yes, he’s doing good things for New York, he’s doing good things for his constituents. And as a constituent, we have a right and a responsibility to hold our government accountable, to question them, to keep their feet to the fire. That is the only way we can make this country better, because if not, what the hell are we doing?

People in government, politicians — you cannot put them on a pedestal like they can do no wrong. You cannot play identity politics. Politics is not a cult of personality. Politics is supposed to be about what the government is able to do for their citizens. And so yes, we have a right, we have a responsibility to question him. We have a responsibility to make sure the people we elect do what they promised.

Because from what he promised, he’s pretty much either walking back on it, making excuses, or just giving us the runaround.

First: arresting Netanyahu

He said during his campaign that he was going to arrest Netanyahu. That was one of the big, loud promises.

Then after he was elected, he walked it back. He said he cannot arrest Netanyahu because he doesn’t have the jurisdiction, because it’s a federal matter, because it’s tied to an ICC warrant, and New York City legally cannot carry out an arrest like that.

Fine. Fine. Whatever. That’s the law. There’s nothing he can do about that part.

Second: Commissioner Jessica Tisch

This one is insane. Jessica Tisch — a proud disgusting Zionist, the same commissioner tied to the NYPD’s crackdowns on protesters, the same person overseeing the Strategic Response Group, the same unit that kettled, pepper‑sprayed, and violently cleared pro‑Palestinian encampments — she gets to stay?

The base that got him elected wants her gone. They expected her gone. They voted for him with the understanding that she would be gone. And instead, he keeps her.

His excuse for keeping Tisch is she's doing a great job with keeping the crime rates down…blah blah blah blah.

Stability. Continuity. Whatever. It’s the same recycled justification every mayor uses when they don’t want to piss off the establishment.

Come the fuck on. Keeping her is a slap in the face to the people who put him there.

He could hire anyone for that job and get the same results, but he doesn’t.

So fuck that bs excuse.

Third: The illegal sale of West Bank land in New York synagogues

There are expos happening in New York synagogues illegally selling West Bank settlement land — land that violates international law, land that displaces Palestinians.

Mamdani condemned these expos. He called them out. He said they promote violations of international law. Activists took that as a commitment that he would actually do something about it — that he would shut this shit down, or at least move to outlaw it.

And what happened?

Absolutely fucking ZILCH.

Nothing.

Not a damn thing.

These expos are still happening. The illegal land is still being marketed. And Mamdani hasn’t lifted a finger to stop it. He positioned himself as someone who would take action, and then he didn’t. And I’m sorry, but this is the biggest what the fuck are you doing moment of all three.

If you’re going to condemn it publicly, if you’re going to call it out as illegal, if you’re going to say it violates international law, then why are you letting it continue in your own city?

Seriously, what the fuck?

Then there’s the whole shift — from “Arrest Netanyahu” and “Free Palestine” to praising Trump’s real estate experience and quoting the Talmud in a video about his $6.4 million anti‑antisemitism initiative.

Meanwhile, he spent over $26 million to fight “anti‑Jewish hate crimes” when there were only 229 anti‑Jewish incidents in New York in 2025, out of 8.58 million people. And out of those 229 incidents, 148 were nonviolent, and some of what is considered “anti‑Jewish” is actually anti‑Zionist or pro‑Palestinian.

So yeah — I like him. I genuinely like him. But he ran on Palestine. He ran on Gaza. He ran on being different. And now he’s doing shit that directly contradicts what he promised. And as constituents, we’re not wrong for calling that shit out. We’re not wrong for being pissed. We’re not wrong for saying: this isn’t what you said you’d be.
