Some, ignorantly said that Morocco did not exist until 1956 (That's when we had the independence from colonial France). Fake Western history! If they knew the Real History of Moroccan Amazigh Kingdom, they would know that in antiquity, Mauretania Tanginita (Modern Morocco now) (3rd century BC – 44 AD) was an ancient Mauri Berber (Amazigh) kingdom and part of Algeria up to Tlemcen and Algerian Sahara including Mauritania were part of the Amazigh (Berber) Kingdom of Morocco.
Many people also were AMNESIC! They do not remember that Spain up to recently has provided weapons to genocidal State to kill the Palestinians and only suspended arms sells in 2025.
Yes we do have a very complex (love-hate) relationship with our colonial past: Spain in Northern Morocco and France in Central and Southern Morocco.
Moroccans like me, most of us supported and grow up with the Palestinian struggle and marched in pro-Palestinian protests for decades as far as I can remember and I am not longer young, in schools, universities. I used to write poems and plays myself on Palestine for decades even before any European, US or Western country. However, like all governments, the Moroccan government does not represent its people and Normalised whether we like it or no and so has many Western Hypocrisies! We grow up weary of the Western Imperialism and what they did all over Africa. One of the richest continents on the planets, destroyed and looted by Western Civilised Democracies to keep Africans poor.
Ceuta and Melilia are in Moroccan land not in Spanish land and should be returned to Morocco a long time ago. Before Franco died, he handed back Western Sahara but not Ceuta and Melilia. My father fought with the French during WWII as many North African were put on the front lines to fight German invasion of France then years later my father fought the French for Algeria, when the King Mohammed V asked Moroccans for volunteers to liberate France from the colonial Imperialist France) were Moroccan centuries ago before the Western colonisation with the evil agenda "Divide and Conquer". Ceuta and Melilia like the Sahara should be liberated from the colonisers and back to their rightful owner; Morocco. The Polisario Front receives support from Hezbollah, Iran, and al-Qaida as well as Gaddafi of Libya. So you see even when Western Colonial Powers left Morocco, Algeria and Mauritania, they leave the region in turmoils similar to colonisation.
In addition, this home-coming and NOT invasion as seen by the West, has happened in 2021 when Spain who shouts to liberate Palestine while occupying North African Land, gave refuge to Polisario Front terrorist Brahim Ghali who travelled to Spain from Algeria with fake Algerian passport. Algeria, the 2nd France as it used to be called, supported by France entered into conflict with Morocco and created terrorists (Polisario Front) to fight in (Tindouf) part of the Sahara. The conflict escalated after the withdrawal of Spain from the Spanish Sahara in accordance with the Madrid Accords in 1975, the Polisario Front, backed and supported by Algeria, waged a 16-year-long war for independence against Mauritania and Morocco.
Add to this because of EU Superior Imperialist Agreements, Spain can fish in Moroccan Sea waters all year round while Moroccan fisherman cannot, they can only for 3 months! hence many youngsters (14, 15, 18) and men in the North Morocco have lost their only source of income. There also some Algerians and some Sub-Saharian African who went to Ceuta, but most have now returned after spending 3 to 7 days without food or water!
Similarly, as I am not only going to blame only the colonial Spain but also the Moroccan Add to that the government especially under PM 'Aziz Akhannouch' leadership, who was Minister (of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests) not only ruined all these sectors and youth unemployment has increased to 29.9% but made himself a billionaire. In 2020, he was ranked 12th on Forbes's annual list of Africa's wealthiest billionaires, with an estimated net worth of $2 billion. Probably more now in 2026. He is the CEO of Akwa Group, a Moroccan conglomerate particularly active in the oil and gas sector with total monopoly of the sector without a single competition. He definitely MUST go but unfortunately, he's very good friend of the king and he is the only one who could make him go!
Similar situation in US with all corrupt politicians bought by AIPAC and swear the allegiance to Israel who get US citizens tax dollars but we do not swear allegiance to anyone except to Morocco and our tax Dirhams go to the war against The Polisario Front.
We have always supported Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Libya, Lebanon and Iran for their struggle, justice and liberation from Western Powers.
My understanding this was organized. The young people that came in were told if they come through the waters they would get citizenship status in Spain. Once landing, they understood this was all a lie and went back to their country. Now they are using this as the boogeyman man in the United States regarding immigrants. The midterms are coming and the United States government is looking to win with this.
