Benjamin Netanyahu: Narcissist, Authoritarian, Psychopathic

He is hated yet worshipped by his own people.

Benjamin Netanyahu has spent decades shaping Israeli politics around himself. His power doesn’t come from quiet leadership or broad consensus — it comes from a relentless drive to dominate, divide, and survive. Even as he faces corruption charges, international condemnation, and growing domestic anger, he continues to present himself as the indispensable guardian of Israel. This is the core of his political persona: a leader who thrives on crisis, who needs conflict to justify his rule, and who treats opposition as a personal threat.

Netanyahu’s narcissism is not subtle. His speeches center on himself, his legacy, his “unique” ability to protect Israel. He frames criticism as betrayal and legal accountability as persecution. Every institution that challenges him — the courts, the media, political rivals — becomes an enemy to be discredited. This self‑image fuels his authoritarian instincts. Over the years, he has chipped away at democratic norms, attacked judges, undermined civil society, and pushed policies that concentrate power in the hands of the executive. His political survival has repeatedly taken precedence over the stability of the country.

The psychopathic edge shows in his willingness to escalate conflict for political gain. Netanyahu has long used fear as a political tool, portraying Israel as perpetually on the brink of annihilation and himself as the only figure capable of preventing it. His decisions in Gaza — from blockades to military campaigns — have drawn global outrage and accusations of war crimes. The International Criminal Court’s pursuit of him reflects how far his actions have gone beyond accepted wartime conduct. Yet inside Israel, he continues to rally support by insisting that any restraint is weakness and any criticism is treason.

This is the paradox of Netanyahu’s rule: he is hated by many Israelis who see him as corrupt, divisive, and dangerous, yet he is worshipped by a loyal base that views him as a savior. His supporters treat him almost as a mythic figure — the man who stands alone against enemies, foreign and domestic. His critics see him as someone who has hollowed out Israeli democracy and dragged the country into endless cycles of violence to maintain his grip on power.

Netanyahu’s legacy is already clear. He has reshaped Israel around his own image: a nation driven by fear, polarized to the breaking point, and locked into a political structure where one man’s survival dictates national policy. In the end, he has fused himself so completely with the state that he has made himself into Israel and Israel into him — the two now indistinguishable.
